Finally it got me again: after long months of lack of inspitarion I woke up this morning with the urgent need to PAINT! YEAH!
About two hours later this 1mx2m painting was finished. But we cannot decide which way to hang it.
This way (version one)?

Or that way (version two)?

So far we couldn’t find a title for it either…
How would you call it?
And which way would you hang it? Version one or two?

I prefer version 2!
yes, two #eindeutig
Thanks Steph and Michael! I’m pro 2 too but hubby says 1… And 1 was the way it was painted…
I like both!
Maybe I prefer version 1 a little more
Grazie Cat!
@all: And what about a title?
I prefer the first way. It’s open and reaching out. The second way is hunching in on itself. Not a bad thing, but it feels too personal to hang in a public room that way. If you hung it the first way I’d call it Embrace.
I prefer version 2…. Think it’s more symmetric, and it speaks more to me that way.
…
Have no idea what to call it though
Wow, Kelly! You’re right!
Thomas just said “why don’t we change it every day and see what it does to us?” He would call the first version “spine of fire” (his titles always sound like Metallica songs
).
So with Kathy (thanks!) that makes three people for version 2 and four people for version 1 so far…
I prefer the 2nd version.
meine begründung schnell auf Deutsch: das bild ist oben und unten geöffnet und so würde es in meinen augen ein richtungsweiser sein. A la “der weg nach oben” oder halt auch umgekehrt.
Version 1 is more striking, as the dark middle seems to push out against the bright ‘sides’. For a personal space I’d be more comfortable with version 2 as it feels more harmonious – the two sides mirror each other, connecting into a whole. Depends on what feel you’re trying to achieve – contrast for visual interest, or harmony for comfort. Version 2 feels cozy and enveloping.
As for title…Vortex of Fire? Red Mirage?
PS1: In regards to what Kelly said, oddly version 2 feels more like an “Embrace’ to me than version 1
…. Aside from that, it may be just the play of lights in the pictures, but I ‘see’ a face on one of the paintings (the one on the left hand side on version 1) – does it look like that in reality?
PS2: Just a thought, but I think the paintings are strong enough to use separately, if you ever want to try that….
Thanks Katrin and Corina!
Yes, you could see a face on the left side but that depends on the angle from which you look on it. There is a golden layer under the red tones. This makes the painting change with every move you make. Unfortunately you cannot get that on the photos.
The title.. mm… you said you did it in the morning so.. you got inspired by morning.
How about autumn sunrise?
I thought I detected some gold undertones. Another title suggestion: Red & Gold Rhapsody.
@Caterina: in Italian? Aurora d’autunno?
@Corina: wow, that sound BIG! Yes, gold and red are not easy to get on photo. You better come here and have a look yourself
Hallo Nette,
definitve 1. And I would just call it “Red” may be with a number if this becomes part of a series. I like it ans soem ay I have to show you my paintings and etchings.
Fritz
Version two – I understand about version 1 being open – that’s the problem though – it seems to escape that way – makes me feel uncomfortable. But then you know how I am about my art so…………………………
Definitely version 1, Nette.
Title: “Stay on these roads”
Hugs to all of you!
@Pål: I just LOVE that title (and the song
) !
