“Now I can see properly again”
October 25, 2009 · 3 Comments
Here’s another story from our nephew Lorenz: he’ll be four years old soon and as it happens with age
he claimed his eyes being not as good anymore… He absolutely wanted to see an eye specialist but all signs showed he had no sight problems at all. In fact the neighbor’s daughter had just been to an eye specialist and then come home with brand new, very cool looking glasses, while Lorenz didn’t have any…
That’s why his granny had the idea to give him one of Thomas’ old glasses:

As you can see there is no glass inside but – what a miracle! – as soon as Lorenz got HIS glasses, all eye problems were gone! He says: “Now I can finally see properly again!”

Twilight mania

Yes, call me crazy! What else should you call a grown up woman getting into the hype of a movie and book series about highschool love and vampires? But hey, those who know me, should be used to such things already.
Yes, I have ordered a lifesize Edward-cutout – well, in fact it was my husband Thomas who ordered the twilight Edward version for me but amazon.co.uk first took the order and then emailed us saying they could not send it (for reasons that were not mentioned). That’s why my friend Mer directed me to forbiddenplanet.com where the New Moon Edward version (which imho is looking better than the old one anyway) can be pre-ordered. Delivery hopefully in November! Woohoo! (Delivery was Jan 4th 2010!)
And in the meantime I’ve already decorated our bedroom and bathroom door with the film posters:

Trip to Dorset in 2000
May 20, 2009 · 1 Comment
Watching a tv documentary about the excavations in Stonehenge in 2008 I remembered my photos from the area. As a journalist I had accompanied a tourist group through Dorset in 2000 and taken a lot of (analogue) photos. Some time ago I had already scanned them but had forgotten to upload them to my FlickR. That has been finally done now! The best photos from this trip can be found in an own album there now:
We had been staying in Bournemouth by then and had travelled to see not only Stonehenge…
… but also the Great Dorset Steam Fair…
… which is most definitely one of the craziest events I’ve ever been to!
My favourite photo from this day doesn’t show a steam engine btw. but two old men enjoying a beer far from the crowds:
Though te greatest time I had during this trip was in the early morning hours alone at Bournemuth beach:

Photosession with Timo
May 13, 2009 · Leave a Comment
At the end of April our friend Timo came to visit us for a day. As we are both into photography and as the weather was fine, we took our cameras and went to the Rhine promenade for a little portrait session.
More photos can be seen on my FlickR.
Il concerto di Angelo Branduardi
April 25, 2009 · 2 Comments
Here we are back from a gorgeous concert of Angelo Branduardi. He played in the concert hall of the Bonn Brückenforum that is only five minutes walk from where we live.We had already been to one of his concerts there beofre and so we knew it was going to be a great evening.
Our seats were on the right outside but third row, so we could still see quite well. The only problem was the fact that the right front speaker was almost in front of us so the sound got a bit rattling for us sometimes.
In the first part Branduardi – who praised the Germans to be his most understanding and faithful audience – presented songs from his Francesco program (see introduction and finale) starting and ending this part with “Il Cantico delle Creature”. Here’s a short video I made of this song:
After a short break he started the good old songs that everybody knew. Several of my favourites were played too, like “Vanità di Vanità” or “Ballo in fa diesis minore” (song starts at 5.38 in this video but for those who understand Italian it’s worth to listen to what he tells there too!).
My video of “Alla fiera dell’est”:
Of course il maestro got standing ovations and had to play several encores including “Cercando l’oro” (to make the audience sing along), a wonderfully fragile version of “O sole mio” and “La luna”.
I realised there were some other people taking videos or photos, will have to search the web within the next days
Grazie per una grandissima sera, Angelo!
